When Plans Change

When I was a kid I didn’t dream about selling life insurance! I had a plan for my life and I wanted to make a difference. I was on track doing what I loved for 16 years. I didn’t have a plan B because I was happy and felt like my position was secure. That was a mistake. The market turned and my position was eliminated. For the first time in my adult life I didn’t know what I would do next. I am so glad that Roger Short took a chance and gave me this opportunity. I had the wrong idea about life insurance. I never realized that I could impact lives in a life insurance platform.

I love what I do. Why? Because I love making a difference in peoples lives. Last night I sat with a lady whose son had gone through a terrible breakup and lost connection with his children. I got to pray with her about their reconciliation and helped her setup a plan that would provide a legacy benefit for her son. These are moments that put wind in my sails. It is nice to sell a policy but it is a totally different feeling to help someone. I get to do this all day long. I also love to see people grow in this business. One thing that I didn’t expect when I started with the Advance Team was that I would be challenged to grow. I was challenged in my work ethic, my character, my mindset, and managing my emotions. I stumbled a lot when I started, but I was a eager to learn. I asked a lot of questions and learned a lot. The most important thing that I learned is that I have a lot of growing to do. You learn a lot about yourself when you are your own boss. In my time with the Advance Team I have learned how to manage my time better. I have learned life changing sales skills. I have learned how to manage my emotions during the ups and downs of sales seasons. I have learned how to walk into a home and to put the client first no matter what. It seems like quite a list doesn’t it? It is, but I have a very long way to go. Because of this opportunity I have become addicted to challenging myself to grow.

I appreciate the team that I work with who invested in my growth. Some may not even know they were investing but I have learned from everybody. I continue to grow because our environment is conducive to it. When I started with Advance Team I had been recently laid off from a job that I loved, and I felt pretty beat-up by the world. I was licking my wounds but I was hungry to pour into people again. My life was changed when Roger Short reached out and offered me this opportunity. I have worked a lot of jobs but I have never had the opportunity that I have now to help people grow. I used to lose sleep at night worrying about the future and if I was doing what I was created to do. Now I lose sleep because I am excited about seeing the people on our team awakening to the idea that they have the same opportunity to grow themselves, run their own business and impact lives in the same way. That is what excites me. There is nothing like seeing people overcome challenges and win.

That is ultimately what I love about the Advance Team, it is the perfect opportunity to grow yourself. My goal is to extend a life changing opportunity to as many people who want to grow themselves as we can find, and link arms with them and help them create a better life.
